This iReport is part of an assignment:
10 years in Afghanistan
Afghanistan's Women: Forgotten Souls
Women throughout the world are persecuted by men because of the extreme power the human female has over all life.
While we in the western world have adopted what we feel are more humane behaviors toward females, those in Third World countries are far behind.
Afghanistan provides an excellent example of how not to treat women:
Hide them inside mud huts all day and night
Cover their faces and bodies with heavy cloth so no man other than a husband or father or son can see them
Do not allow them the same rights as males
Beat them daily so they understand who is "boss"
Force them to do all the labor inside and around the hut
Impregnate them with the genes of oppression
Never say to them please, thank you or I love you
The world will not wake up to the horrible plight of these women until these women speak out against the oppression that has held them back for thousands of years.
Just because something has worked "well" does not necessarily mean we should keep it on the books.
