Fake Satirical ‘Anti-Angry Birds Bill’ Hits Netizens

Last August, I published an article about Angry Birds in Action. Now I share this so-called news about the fake satirical 'Anti-Angry Birds Bill' that hits Filipino Netizens.

The alleged news about House Bill 5379 or the Anti-Angry Birds Bill was first published by the "So, What's News?" website on Friday. The said "news" hits the social networking sites, i.e. Facebook & Twitter, and becomes the talk of the town by many Filipino Netizens. In fact, the political satire is the Philippines' fourth most discussed topic on Twitter on Oct 2.

"News on the so-called Anti-Angry Birds Bill is going viral on social networking sites," says GMA News Online.

According to the website, Quezon City Representative Winston Castelo got the idea for the bill when he went shopping for Christmas gifts the  other day at a mall. “Everywhere I looked, Angry Birds this, Angry Birds  that! Where is the product diversity? Shouldn’t the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) be monitoring  this?” said Castelo.

Rep. Castello is the same congressman who has filed a bill about anti-planking which he called as "Anti-Planking Act of 2011." The bill was filed after the street protests of drivers and students who planked on the street which caused heavy traffics. “…this is why this bill is even more important than my own anti-planking  bill. I hope that my colleagues here at Batasan will support this  bill," according to the website.

"I find the satirical Angry Birds Bill funny and amusing. I play the game. That's the favorite of my son. It's a hoax." - Rep. Castello message to GMA News.

My professor commented about this and said, "...but this is the kind of  framework most of those in politics follow, the essence of being shallow  in the midst of a crisis. this also correlates to the current issue of  using photoshops in typhoon clean up photo, showing what is fake  to  emphasize the truth."
