    Steve Jobs helped my autistic son speak

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     evette521 says 4-year-old BJ uses his iPad during therapy sessions 'to help with words, writing, counting, emoting, and dexterity of his hands ... It allows BJ to play and think at the same time.'

    Through the kindness of Autism Speaks and Apple, my non-verbal, autistic son won an IPad. It has helped him find his voice.  Thank you, Mr. Jobs.

     

    My son now has 100 words. When he's able to finally say "Thank you", I will have him send those words up to you in Heaven with a balloon.

    BJ uses his donated IPad to communicate  receptive and expressive needs and wants. It helps us

    understand BJ and offer him a tool to help with emotions he is feeling and the voice that he can't yet express them with.

     

    BJ has so much to say--and thanks to Mr. Jobs' idea, he's developing the voice to say it. The IPad gives us a peek into the the BJ we know is there, but who just can't find his way to us yet.

     

    IPad technology impacts BJ's daily life--It offers  potential and hope. He can communicate more at school, the doctor's office, church, and home. He can be a child more, as opposed to a little person frantically trying to relay a message but doesn't have the acquired means to (like a stroke victim unfortunately can experience).

     

    Thank you for giving my BJ a voice.
