This iReport is part of an assignment:
    If you ran government

    If I ran the government

If  I ran the government I’d try to be as fair as possible. I would  increase money to build more homeless shelters and spend less on a war  that has been going on for 10 years. Every year over 2 million kids  alone will become homeless. If there were more homeless shelters and  programs within them to help the children receive some educational or  job training they’d be able get right back up and have a successful  future instead of possibly becoming addicted to alcohol and drugs. I  would not cut any programs in the U.S. but I would change Social  Security. Too many people today are paying for people in the future to  receive their retirement funds when they might not even be able to earn  heir money because too many people are unemployed. I would also allow  the people to have a minute say with the government’s spending and not  let it ultimately reside as the governments power only. Of course the  government is supposed to spend it in a wise manner that’s best for the  people, but sometimes they spend too much on wars that have not been  making any progress. They should be spending more on public services  such as Medicare to allow more people with a lower-income to receive  medical attention for them and their family. Gridlock will always be an  issue in the government, but a few regulations can be created on the  amount of time Congress has to pass a policy. The people have the right  to increase protest and demand the government to make a quicker decision  , hopefully they’d take notice of what most people;s idea on the policy  and make a decision on their observations. No one can really force the  parties to make quicker decisions so they can have a new regulation  forcing them to make a compromise to please both parties. In the end,  the policy is supposed to be reflected upon the needs and beliefs of the  citizens and not a specific political party. If after the appointed  time nothing gets done, the should make a compromise or leave it to the  people to vote. The government will always have flaws and policies  people do not agree with but in the end it should do everything for the  protection of the governed and their rights.
