Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
On a road trip to D.C. and stopped at Harpers Ferry on the way. The cannon was located at Bolivar Heights, site of multiple battles during the Civil War. The Union originally occupied the site, but due to it's location at the convergence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers along with multiple railroad lines, the Confederates repeatedly attempted to capture the site. They ultimately succeeded in 1862 when Colonel Dixon Miles offered the unconditional surrender of 12,500 Union soldiers.
