Occupy the London Stock Exchange with Assange

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     amedeodamore shot these pictures on October 15 of thousands of protesters, including Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, demonstrating in London near St. Paul's Cathedral. 'Essentially they are very disappointed by the current economic system,' he said. 'From my understanding, they feel that governments have done too much to protect companies while doing very little to assist the average citizen.'
    - jmsaba, CNN iReport producer

London's first Occupy the London Stock Exchange protest:

While I can't say that I'm full surporter of what the protesters are demanding, I nonetheless felt I should check it out to see what they are all about.

Contrary to what I was expecting, the roughly 1,500-2,000 people there were fairly relaxed (as were many of the police officers) and were essentially sitting/standing around chanting peacefully. Some even brought their children.

And probably unsurprisingly, some were pitching their tents and getting organized to spend the night there as they already had a list of food banks to contact to request support.

A surprise to most protesters was the appearence of a special guest, Julian Assange, (picture 6 - sitting down in front of his bodyguards) who addressed the crowd.

As someone who firmly believes in the right to freedom of expression, I hope that the protest remains peaceful and I'm very interested to see whether this can grow beyond today as it has been growing in NYC.
