Is the time of a holiday in Israel, The Sukkot.
Schalit was back home, from a captivity of more than 5 long years (1,941 DAYS).
He was doing his compulsory military duty in the Armored Corps, when he was kidnapped in a cross border raid by Islamic militants from the terrorist group Hamas. Upon his release yesterday, Oct 18th, 2011, after a difficult interview in Egypt, he was looking pale, skynny and frail.
Yesterday, an historic prisoners swap was concluded: after long negotiations, with the help pf Germany and Egypt, (as well as France who campaigned for his release, Gilad being a dual Israeli-French citizen) he was exchanges for more than 1,000 legally convicted terrorism, men and women, Palestinians. 477 prisoners were pardoned by the Israel president Shimon Peres and were freed in the first batch. the second group will be freed in a few month time. Let's all hope that they will not return to violence and terrorist acts.
Many of these convicts were serving sentences of life in prison for criminal acts against Israelis. Some were released in Gaza (270), West Bank, in Egypt, in Turkey (11), Jordan (1), Quatar, Syria (15), etc.
The arrival home of Stg.Gilad Schalit, to his family residence in Mitzpe Hila, is closing a painful and very complicated cycle in the life of this traumatized family. As well his arrival is a closure for the IDF and the State of Israel.
Thousand of articles and materials were written about this case since 2006 and many thousand more will be in the future.
In the past I wrote a few articles about the symbolisms of Gilad Shalit. I am happy to know that He's Back Home, with family and friends.
This event will be much and heavily covered by all media.
I hope that he will resume his life, leave the trauma behind him (the same trauma as a German concentration camps during WWII) gap these tragic and difficult 5 years in solitary confinement, have a long a productive live, for the happiness of his family and the well being of Israel.
He should take life back, one step at the time, take it slow!
