United States and Iran
The United States and Iran have had many issues in the past few decades. It also seems like there has been an increase in problems of recently, but the United States and Iran haven’t always had so much conflict. In fact they use to get along quite well. It all change in 1953, when the United States formed a coup d’état that overthrew the prime minister of Iran, who was beginning to nationalize oil companies. After, the overthrow, the United States gave a lot of financial support to the Shah. The Shah was very pro-westernization. The United States wanted Iran to stay this way since it was during the Cold War.
Many Iranians were angered at the fact that the Shah was so friendly with the United States. They were so upset about it that in 1979 they formed a revolution that ousted the pro-American Shah. During the revolution, the Iranians stormed the U.S. Embassy and took fifty-two U.S. diplomats hostage. This became known as Iran Hostage Crisis. They were keep hostage for 444 days.
Now today it seems that Iran and the United States always have an issue. The most recent being the nuclear weapons program, imprisoning American hikers, Iran saying they are going to send ships to the Atlantic, and the plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States. Everyone fears an attack. Iran fears an attack from the United States and The United States that Iran’s nuclear program could end up harming them.
Something obviously needs to be done to try and keep peace between these two nations. If there aren’t any actions taken soon, there could be another major war in the Middle East. The United States and Iran need to find middle ground or both of these countries could harm other innocent nations.
