    In Madinah, The Illuminated City

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     monahaydar shot this video just before leaving for Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage. She says performing the rites of the pilgrimage has left her with a magical feeling. 'I feel like I have fulfilled my obligation to God. Death is a little bit less scary to me now.'
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

Although  not officially part of the Hajj pilgrimage, visiting Madinah, Saudi Arabia, also  known as the “City of the Prophet,” is an important stop for many  Muslims heading to Mecca. No Hajj trip can truly be considereded complete without a visit to Madinah.

In the Illuminated City of Madinah where the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be prayers and peace, lived out the last 10 years of his life. The people of Madinah are like none other. This mosque can comfortably fit over a million people and yet the serenity of the city remains. It is awe inspiring and wholly captivating. The vibrations in the city are tranquil and serene and the stillness and calm it gifts to each person who visits this city is the best pre-hajj preparation I could have asked or hoped for. I feel ready for hajj after spending these few days here. I am hopeful for what the rest of my trip will offer.
