The Occupy Wall Street Party Is Over...For Now!

The occupation of Occupy Wall Street ended last night at
Zuccotti Park in New York City.

What started as a peaceful movement, to decry the unfair business practice of Wall Street, had become riddled with petty crimes and assaults as protesters put up tents in the park.

Early Tuesday morning, however, the City issued an eviction notice and police moved in to order the protesters out.

While some of the protesters left the Park without
incident about 100 individuals were arrested.

In a press conference early Tuesday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the protesters would be allowed back in the park once cleaned.  The Mayor said the owners of the park, Brookfield Properties, had become concerned of the unsanitary conditions and fire hazards.

After protesters were evicted and the park cleaned, New York Judge Lucy Billings issued a restraining order that would allow the protesters back in the park with tents.

However, the City is appealing he order on the grounds that while the First Amendment protects free speech and freedom to assembly it does not protect the erection of tents.

So far, no major clashes with the police and protesters.
