    Happy Thanksgiving

As we all sit down today with friends and family, we will give thanks for the many good things that have happened in our lives.

We can celebrate a healthy family, good friends, and being in a country that can get crazy sometimes with the constant debates on issues that seem to consume us without resorting to armed conflict.

Let's be particularly thankful that our founding fathers left us a living Constitution that was so artfully drafted that it continues to adjust to our changing world.

Despite our economic woes, we live in a peaceful, dynamic country that is still the beacon to all the world.

Remember the poem by Emma Lazarus that is inscribed on a tablet at the base of the Statue of Liberty that reads, in part:

"Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Good words to live by; aren't they?  If our country is in such trouble, why do all people "yearning to breathe free" still take on incredible hardship to join us?

It may be especially meaningful on this day to remind ourselves that all of us were at one time immigrants to these shores; even the Native Americans. At one point we were all illegal immigrants.

    Think about that.
