Miami Buzzes with Energy on Black Friday
Like a lot of us on Thanksgiving, I ate a big meal, slept until 11:15 p.m., and then headed out to the Black Friday madness, which started at midnight, November 25, 2011. Miami is usually a busy place, but midnight felt more like 8:00 p.m., as the city buzzed with the Black Friday energy. I headed to the Target at 7775 SW 40th Street, Miami, FL 33155, which is in a large shopping center that houses Publix, American Signature Furniture, and Best Buy. Never being a big fan of Black Friday, I decided to participate this year, and was shocked to see all the retailers, except for Publix, opening their doors at midnight. I shot two videos back to back at Target, right before midnight. I’m happy to say, that it was a subdued crowd that followed the line in an orderly fashion. As I reached near the end of the line (which wrapped around the end of the large building), I made a last-minute decision, and veered off to the nearly empty American Signature Furniture store. Curiosity got the best of me, and I found a very modern futon that mimics the pricier modern sofas in the designer furniture galleries of SoBe, and matched one at home that I had paid $300 for, almost exactly. So, you guessed it…$99 dollars later, I had two men place the giant box in my car, and counted myself as another happy casualty of Black Friday. How did I unload and unpack my huge box at 3:00 a.m. in the morning? That’s another story right there, but believe me, it was all worth it.
