High Winds damage San Gabriel Mission

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Freelance photojournalist defmatnyc rushed over to the San Gabriel Mission in California after 70- to 80-mph winds damaged the church and the religious statues on the grounds yesterday. The mission curator told him that he received a security alarm notification at 2 a.m. The collapse of the large crucifix set off a motion detector, according to the curator. 'The crucifix, the wood part was standing, but the Jesus part had fallen off and was really badly damaged. … The hands were knocked off and the arms and hands were pointed upward to the sky. If you see in the photo, Mary is looking up at Jesus and he is looking up in the sky,' he said.
