'Tis the season for giving... odd gifts?

    Odd and Awkward

I was 12 years old when my mom got remarried to my step dad, and I gained two step brothers. I'll never forget our first Christmas as a family for many reasons, there is one in particular that my mom and I used to like to laugh about. One night we went to visit some friends of my step dad. They were a bit weird to say the least. They had a ton of gifts for my little step brothers. I sat there feeling sad and envious while I had nothing to open in front of me and they ripped and tore open packages. Paper flying around the room. The woman looked at me with a look of realization, like she remembered I was there, went into the kitchen and came back and handed me a brown paper bag all folded up with something inside. I smiled a little because I was relieved to get anything at this point! Inside were a pair of obnoxious red gloves. They weren't just normal red gloves mind you, they were Christmas themed! Each finger had a finger puppet of a Christmas character. My thumb was Santa, snow men for my middle, and a couple of reindeer too. I was 12 years old and they were much too small for my hands which leaves me to believe they were her daughters who was about 5. I said thanks of course and then watched my brothers open all of their toys. I learned a lesson here that it's the thought that counts. This lady didn't even think of me. I will never let a step child/relative feel left out around Christmas time. We never went back there for Christmas again for some reason, but I didn't mind lol.
