    Iowa voters: What's your number one issue?

    Defeat what defeats a lot of families with aging parents.

     
    By 2020, nearly 71,000 Iowans over age 65 will have Alzheimer's disease. And nationally, Alzheimer's could add nearly 2 trillion dollars to the national debt in the next decade unless we take action. But that's not why I care. I care because my grandmother suffered with dementia the last years of her life. I'm sure it was stressful for her, and it weighed heavily on my family.

    We need a national plan to defeat the disease that includes dedicating the right resources to scientific innovation and research. That's why Alzheimer's is a significant issue to me in this election.
