Garden City Hotel Demolition / 1973
Garden City, New York
The original Garden City Hotel, a landmark known for it's upscale amenities and great dining was a haunt for many of Manhattan and Long Island's elite socialites, wealthy businessmen and politicians. Although the original was torn down in 1973, the new hotel which was built on the same spot also attracts the upscale and enjoys a reputation of being one of Long Island's best Hotels. These photos, taken by me 38 years ago and recently found, recount the tearing down of the original hotel to make way for the new one. For many Long Islanders it marked the end of an era.
