    Aftermath of Tropical Storm Washi

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     'Relatively speaking, I was one of the fortunate ones; my place didn't flood, my house wasn't damaged; many more people are in a worse situation than me and my family. [...] It's going to be a tough Christmas for a lot of people here,' says first-time iReporter GKomarnicki. He hails from Cagayan de Oro City in the Philippines, which saw heavy flooding in the aftermath of T.S. Washi. The images were taken on December 18. He says the biggest problem at the moment is 'the lack of clean running water.'

These were taken from a bridge over the Cagayan River in Cagayan de Oro City on Sunday, 18 December, 2011, during the aftermath of Tropical Storm Washi. People living along the banks of the river lost their homes and their belongings, with many even losing their lives. A few people were preparing to evacuate, but most have nowhere to go.
Across the river, a billboard scaffolding can be seen leaning towards the water, and in the same area, what used to be shanties is now piles of rubble.
