This iReport is part of an assignment:
    CNN Fit Nation: Triathlon Challenge

    Beat Diabetes

My story is about preventing the onset of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke etc as much as possible through proper diet and exercise. I am genetically predisposed to getting type II diabetes and am committed to working hard to stay ahead of the disease. Everyone is different, and for me, I have learned over the years that light to moderate exercise is just not enough for me to maintain optimal health. My workouts have to be intense in order for me to see results. Also, exercise alone is not enough. Diet is extremely important as well. Eating balanced and nutritious meals which include protein, whole grains, vegetables, fruits and a small amount of healthy oils, always leave me feeling more energetic and strong.

I am looking for a new challenge to motivate myself to stay focused on my life-long goal of achieving and maintaining good health and especially staying away from diabetes. I never considered doing a triathlon until now because I don’t know how to swim and I am afraid of biking because of a bad biking accident I had about 10 years ago. However, I believe that the CNN Tri Challenge is the perfect way for me to learn new skills, overcome my fears, and work towards my ultimate goal of being fit.

I am truly inspired by other applicants and past participants of CNN’s 6-Pack and am excited at the prospect of joining this journey and sharing the rest of my story with you!
