Hidden Job Market: Video Gamer
Video gaming is steadily growing. There are games online. There are games you play on your TV console. There are even video games you can play on your smart phone. With an expanding video game business, are there job opportunities?
You bet there are.
At the PinkSlipMixers.com Jobs Panel Discussion in San Francisco on December 15th, we asked recruiters what they thought about jobs in gaming.
Scott Fernandez of Gazillion Entertainment (www.Gazillion.com) said "Look at Angry Birds, a silly idea that sold sixty million copies". He further comments that "If you look at the past 5 months, this might be the best year for gamers that's ever been because of all the triple A titles and all the big things that have come out."
There are many opportunities in gaming such as artists, animators, architects, programmers and developers. Additionally there are other job functions in the gaming industry such as marketing and mobile development. One of the most important traits hiring managers are looking for in candidates are passion in the industry.
Shiva Adli of Caspian Solutions says there are a lot of opportunities from California to New York. She says, "You can't be just an engineer anymore. You have to be able to communicate with business people."
Gazillion is hiring in California and Washington. Scott Fernandez says that people who want to work in gaming should also look outside of California. There are hiring gaming companies in areas like Texas and Canada.
All in all, the panelists agree that there are more opportunities opening up for technology job seekers.
Gazillion Entertainment is a developer, publisher and operator of massively multiplayer online games and services for wide audiences. Scott Fernandez of
Gazillion Entertainment says that his company has three online gaming products.
Shiva Adli of Caspian Solutions, an executive search firm in Santa Clara, California, agrees with Fernandez and also sees growth in the online gaming sector. She further adds that she is seeing high growth within the social media space. She is actively recruiting in the states of California and New York.
Jamison Moore of Wix.com, a do-it-yourself website creation company, agreed with the other panelists. Additionally, they are hiring programmers and techies who are talented as well as workers who have the desire and aptitude to learn technology. Wix is hiring in San Francisco, New York and other cities around the world.
Edwin Duterte of PinkSlipMixers.com hosted the jobs panel that focused on the technology industry. This is part 3 or a series of reports devoted to jobs in technology.
