The Cool Breezy Aromatic Nights In Cairo, Egypt!
Today is one of my days off from playing poker after (4) consecutive nights of playing (12) hours sessions and my body and mind need a little resting without the stress of having to churn out numbers and mathematical probabilities while being involved in multi-way pots with lots of cash at stake glaring at me for the take... It is almost (9)pm Cairo time and I have just finished supper and waiting with anticipation-like a kid in a candy store, to go out and explore the cool breezy aromatic Cairo nights. I call the service elevator which is one of those elevator that has two wooded glass doors that open up inwardly before you step inside the very small box and then close the doors before the motors start descending you down to the main lobby. As I exit the old rustic antique elevator to my standards, I walk out the security condo apartments, where I am staying and open the security gates which leads me out into the maze of the city Cairo streets full of people walking at all hours of the day and night; quickly fast pace walking through the interwinding streets that lead me to the main artery avenue of Tahrir Street... There my friends is where life begins, as I quickly integrate myself with hundreds if not thousands of nightly people who stroll and meander the streets every night, either alone, with the families, or their children; it is very customary to see two men walking in arm in arm, the same with the women, lots of different kinds of people transit this energetic avenue, full of restaurants with neon lights, lights flashing different colors in all directions, while slowly walking and taking in the deep Cairo cool air into my lungs and immensely enjoying my acute sense of smell to the street coner vendors selling wooded cooked corn on the cob, sweet potato, the aroma of the men smoking the peach-strawberry scented tabacco out of a water pipe [hubbly bubbly], along with fresh nightly cool air of Cairo that puts me in a very , clear state of mind, and a very optimistic and a very relaxing state. As I arrive at one of my favorite cafe bar and sit for a brief moment while I settle down from a (15) minute healthy walk.; due to the fact the most of the streets in Cairo are uneven; from one street to the next you might encounter (12) inches of side walk as oppose to (6) inches to the next so on and so forth... Believe you me, StairMasters Company would go broke in this city, I have been here (2) months and already starting to feel great with my feet and legs acquiring new muscles that have been dormant back home in Miami for the lack of use. I sit in the bar and ask the waiter for the usual, arab expresso and a bottle of water and sit there and people watch for a few hours while I listen to my music... It is very pleasing to the eyes watching the night meandering egytians enjoying by way of walking the beautiful city of Cairo at night, it is something very special to see how families walk with all their children, old couples, women in groups of (3) or more, the young teenagers out frolicking about!... I sit here and take a few pictures, enjoy the view, make small conversation with the peope sitting around me; all this human fun for the price of less than one dollar, to be exact ($0.90) cents... I have traveled to Thailand, Argentina, Mexico, City and I must tell you, Egypt beats them all!... After having so much fun after spending almost ONE DOLLAR; and start the process of walking back home and again; all the (5) senses come back to life as I walk in the middle of a now side street with open fruit and vegetable market on both sides along with all kind of little storefronts accompanied with a never ending supply of cafe bars that offer fast food, water pipes [hubbly bubbly]; while watching soccer along with other (20) people sitting next to you and seemingly enjoying their night out. Hey, now brother, can you spare one dollar?, One dollar here in Cairo,Egypt gets you very far and out of the house at night in a very cool breezy winter egyptian night!...
