Times Square Preps For Biggest 2012 Party

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     sjunat55 has lived in New York City for 30 years and has watched the famous ball drop from One Times Square only twice. The best view is from 45th or 46th street; any closer, 'you don't see the ball because the building covers it.' He plans to celebrate New Year's Eve at home this year, but he might walk to Times Square after the revelers are gone 'because I like to take pictures of the mess they leave behind.'
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

Times Square is setting up for the biggest New Year's Eve celebration in the world: stages, barricades for crowd control, lights, speakers and television equipment- even early overnighters with blankets.
One million people are expected to crowd the area where on Thursday, 12/29/11 preparations were well on their way- including the testing of the 2012 numerals lights.
The ball has been lowered from the pole atop 1 Times Square until it's tme to bring it back to ring in the new year.
