Things to do before you die |
Backpacking in Africa, NZ, and OZ
I've been pretty fortunate when it comes to traveling. I'm 34 now and have been to 330+ cities in 40 countries. Of course, it has helped that I lived in London, Tokyo, NYC, and the Netherlands. The best travel memories by far though is when I spent 6 months backpacking through Southern Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. Since I quit my job, I was able to travel at my own pace, planning as I went along. Each day was carefree, my only concern would be how long I would stay where I am and where I would go next. In Africa I got to experience a variety - safaris, hiking, beaches, and more. New Zealand was best for hiking, and Australia had the best beaches.
I traveled alone, but I met a lot of great friends along the way. They are as much a part of my memory as are the places I visited. If it were not for the people, I could not say it was such a great trip.
If I died tomorrow, I'd die happy, content that I have seen more of the world than most people do. Still, there are more adventures I want to go on. China and Eastern Africa are on top of a very long list of places I want to go and things to do still. I want to climb Kilimanjaro. Walk the 88 Temple Pilgrimage in Japan. Learn Spanish in South America. Perhaps work a season in a ski resort... on a beach resort.. Life is too short though, and I also need to start thinking about having a family, if I was to ever have one. I'm at a crossroad right now. Which way will life take me?
