Anti-Putin protests in Russia and beyond

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     NPelevine shot these photos of protests at New York City's Russian Consulate against Russian President Vladimir Putin. 'I am a member of the Russian opposition and have been for many years,' she said. 'I am outraged but not surprised by the election fraud that took place on the 4th of December [2011]. Putin and his United Russia party want to stay in power and keep destroying Russia, pulling it further into kleptocratic dictatorship. But, since then, Russian people have spoken against Putin's rule and it is now vitally important to stay the course to new democratic Russia. Russia without Putin - is our slogan and our plan.'
    - jmsaba, CNN iReport producer

December marked a month of the largest protests Russian has seen in almost 20 years. These were triggered by the parliamentary elections seen by most as unfair and unjust thus very much in line with Vladimir Putin's regime. Over 100,000 came to a protest on the 10th of December and over 120,000 on the 24th of December. We organized a protest in NYC by the Russian Consulate which was attended by 500 people.
