Laundry Spinner Saves Electricity and Clothes

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     The spinner cost much less than a new efficient dryer. The spinner kept us from buying a new dryer because it means we can hang the clothes inside in the winter. Before we ended up always using the dryer in the winter because the clothes would take too long to dry inside vs. outside in the summer sun. So we can keep our old dryer for when we need it, but it will last longer because we'll use it only very occasionally calebjc

A review our new laundry spinner. It's a little machine that gets clothes almost dry by spinning them at 3200 RPMs. We love ours!  After 3 minutes of spinning we hang our clothes up in the laundry room and they dry very fast, no dryer needed. It uses drastically less electricity than our dryer. It cost us about $170.00 shipped. It also helps our clothes last longer since they are not rubbed together and overheated. We could see in the lint filter of our old dryer how many fibers came off our clothes!

I discovered this spinner while watching a  video tour of a super efficient passive house built in Maine by  G•O Logic Homes. The laundry room part of the tour contained only a very efficient modern front loading washer, a laundry spinner, and lines to hang clothes on.  An air duct in the ceiling cycled air under the door and past clothes,  causing them to dry in a few hours. The laundry room is featured 8 1/2  minutes into the video here: http://youtu.be/_NDTqq3Euz4?t=8m24s

Our spinner says it's made by Alternative Laundry Inc. We got it from Compact Appliance.com
