My bucket list has always included owning a convertible. During my 8 years of college, I always drove cars that merited the term “beater”. After graduating, I started saving so that I could buy a car without a loan. The time came, and I started looking.

I heard Corvettes have a removable hard tops--so they don't look like convertibles when the top is on. So I started looking into older models, ie., ones I could afford.

I found a newer corvette on Craigslist in San Diego (400 miles away from me) for $4500 less than Bluebook, and it was a C-5 which is the second newest model--the last model which had the flip up lights.

After calling the guy and a quick CarFax check, the car seemed to legit. I decided to seize the opportunity, hoping it wasn’t a scam. Within 2 hours I was on a plane and in another 4 hours I purchased the car.

I did everything I possibly could to ensure it wasn't a scam and protect myself, as it seemed way too good to be true--but this was years in the making, I wasn’t going to let this pass me by. Luckily it was true!

The top comes off only above the head and not behind, so some say it's not a true convertible... but I think I'll settle.
