    Mass Protest in Akure Ondo State over fuel subsidy


    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     otunbagm, a student in Akure, Nigeria, shares with us these photos taken with his mobile phone on the morning of January 9, 2012, at a rally in opposition to a controversial government decision to take away fuel subsidies in the African country. Fuel prices have spiked to more than double in some parts of Nigeria after the subsidies' removal on January 1. otunbagm, says he is participating in the protests because 'as a student leader in school, it is part of me to fight against injustice [...]' For more protests in Nigeria, click here.

    Thousands of people took to the street of Akure the Ondo state Capital to protest against the hike of premium motor spirit (PMS) from 65 naira to 140 naira. It was a peaceful protest and no casualty was recorded.
