Capri Sun Worms
- jmsaba, CNN iReport producer
“My name is Sara Ramirez and this morning I experienced an incident with your product. I am notifying your company because I would hate for this to happen to somebody else. I removed the yellow straw from its plastic covering, I inserted it into the juice pouch, the then proceeded to suck and no juice was coming up so I pulled the straw out to see what the issue was. As I pulled the straw out, halfway up the straw and hanging from the bottom of the straw was what looked like to me... a worm. It is a pinkish tan long worm like thing. It was long, so long that it was half way up my straw the middle portion of my worm was in the air and the back end of my worm was still in the pouch! I immediately was grossed out and began to gag. I then pulled the straw so that the worm would be fully exposed so
I could examine it. I tried to see if maybe I probed it a little it would break apart as perhaps it was just a gathering of substances from the ingredients that you put in your product but it wouldn't break apart it definitely looks like a worm and I am convinced it is. I have pictures of " the worm" and I also have the actual worm and pouch itself. It's in my freezer. If you could so kindly give me an explanation for this grotesque creature I found in my pouch. In my 21 years of life I've never been more grossed out. I am now scared to drink Capri sun.
Sincerely,
Sara Ramirez

What I received in return was this-
“I'm sorry for the experience you had with CAPRI SUN® Juice Drink. This product was obviously not up to the quality and standards that we have with our products or that you've come to expect from us. Your experience is important to us.
I want to assure you that our quality control program is designed to maintain a high level of sanitation, which includes thorough cleaning and special treatment of both the production and storage areas to deter the presence of insect, bugs and pests. We test all of our ingredients and inspect all packaging supplies before we use them. In addition, we keep samples of our products and examine them continuously until they have reached their expiration date.
Despite these steps, we do lose a certain amount of control over our products once they're shipped. If our products are stored close to other food products which are already infested or beyond their shelf lives, it's possible for insects to travel from one product to another by penetrating packaging materials.
Also, I will be e mailing you a link to send us a photo of the item.
In addition, I'm sending you coupon reimbursement to replace this product, via first class mail, which you should receive within 7-10 business days.
I hope this information is helpful, and again, I apologize for this experience. Thank you for your loyalty and we hope that your next experience is a good one.

Quite frankly I am not pleased at all with their response they came up with. The juice pouch was sealed and NOT expired. I sent them the photos and I got NOTHING in response, no explanation like I had asked for. I don’t want the rebate they sent me because I am scared to suck up another worm. If they were a QUALITY company they would have arranged to examine their product I so nicely saved for them in my freezer. I want to share this story with people because I know lots of kids drink this product and who knows what’s floating in it.
