    1300 Feet of Falling

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     G3Photo shot these dramatic photos of January 13 qualifying rounds for Red Bull's "Crashed Ice" downhill skating competition. 'These are athletes from all over the world, not just the Twin Cities,' he said. 'It took some serious skill to reach the bottom of this course, which is packed with well placed bumps and turns, one a nearly vertical hairpin that was followed by a brutal double jump. That spot was where I saw some spectacular, heartbreaking and bone breaking (literally) crashes.'
    - jmsaba, CNN iReport producer

The Red Bull Crashed Ice competition is being held in St. Paul, Minnesota this weekend, January 12-14. Some 128 qualifiers will race in 4 person heats down a 1300 foot course. So far there have been several serious injuries just in the qualifying rounds.

Some 75,000 people are expected to attend tomorrow's finals which begin at 7:00PM when the number of competitors has been reduced to 64.
