    The first #occupynigeria protest in New York in solidarity with Nigerians in Nigeria

     

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     AraoAmeny says the crowd included speakers from the Nigerian community in New York and friends of Nigeria, including Occupy Wall Street activist Edward T. Hall III.

    Nigerians and Friends of Nigeria (Africans from other countries, Americans from different races and cultures, and Nigerian Americans) protested outside of the Nigerian Consulate in solidarity Nigerians in Nigeria. They were also supported by members from the Occupy Wall Street movement who stated they were out there to support Nigerian protestors.This was the first protest which took place on January 11, 2012 in front of the Nigerian Consulate (embassy) at 5 pm and lasted into in the night.
