    The Secular Solstice

Since we don’t practice a religion, we celebrate the Solstice in a completely secular way. Part of our celebration is to have an evergreen tree which we decorate with stars and planets and symbols of winter and the coming spring.
This year for the first time we bought a live tree in a pot and used it as the centerpiece of our celebration of the shortest day of the year and the coming spring.
Today was very mild (for a winter day in the Rocky Mountains) so we took the tree out and planted it in our backyard. We encourage rational, enlightened people around the world to do the same. Use your holiday tree as an excuse to add more green to the world and therefore remove a little CO2.
Admittedly, this is a small gesture, but it shows that you care about the environment and love the small planet which we all share.
