This iReport is part of an assignment:
Sarah Palin's political future |
Palins Dilemma
Just one day after the DNC, Sarah Palin was announced as the Republican VP pick. I didn't really care much. I'm a registered independent, but consider myself to be more of a Republican.
So why didn't I care? Mccain is a pretty smart guy and anyone with any common sense knows that this is a ploy to sway independent voters, conservatives and disillusioned Hilary supporters. Politically this is a pretty good move, but when was the last time we saw a vice president really do anything (aside from shooting their hunting buddies in the face).
Truth is the VP doesn't really set a whole lot of policy.
What I really wanted to write about was the fact that there is this giant controversy brewing over Sarah Palin's 17 year old Daughter being pregnant.
Some have said she should remove herself from the ticket, others say it shows that the family has morals for choosing not to abort the child. I think it shows a 17 year old girl who made a mistake.
Just as I don't think we should hold Obama accountable for Rev. Wrights beliefs, we shouldn't hold Sarah Palin accountable for her daughters choices (especially when her daughter is 17 year old).
The pregnancy falls squarly on the shoulders of Bristol Palin. Her mother has decided to support her daughter, which isn't always the choice that parents make. While a mother can't control everything her children do, they can help them when they need it.
Essentially, this has no bearing on Sarah Palin or her ability to fill the vice presidency position.
