    Remembering Joe Paterno

    JoPa to me.......

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     RGL1957 graduated from Penn State in 1957 and has followed JoePa for his entire career. Paterno was an assistant coach under Rip Engle when Liedy was a sophomore. 'I have met [Paterno] on several occasions and think very highly of him as a mentor of men and a motivator of achieving high academic performance amongst his players,' he said. RGL1957 is 'very upset' with the Board of Trustees' response to the Sandusky scandal and how the situation was handled.

I was a sophomore at PSU in 1954 and became acquainted with JoPa when he was an assistant coach under Rip Engle. I went to every PSU football game through my graduation in 1957. I continued attending PSU games until we moved to Colorado in 1964 and then only attended every few years. JoPa was endeared to me and I followed him and his teams ferverently. I knew what a GREAT mentor of kids he was and how he stressed academics over football. I was really proud this year when PSU won first place in academic achievement for its football team! What a eternal legacy to JoPa in his last year as head coach. He had the last word and deserves that place in PSU history. I never met a better man than my beloved JoPa. I will miss seeing him every football season the rest of my life.
