Your 'Aha' weight-loss moments |
Living the dream
My dad passed away suddenly at the age of 52, and missed so much of my life and his grandchildren’s as well. I did not want the same for myself. I owe it to myself and my children to be as healthy as possible. It was very difficult to teach my children to eat properly, when I could not set a good example myself.
In January 2010, I got the call that changed my life. My local gym advised me that I had won a 8-week challenge. I was both excited and nervous. A gym was foreign to me. My first visit was so welcoming by the staff and owners of the NDG branch. My trainer Sophie went over the Kilo Cardio book and we discussed the work plan and diet that was set for me. Then came time for the Fit Test. The results devastated me. The age of my body physically was 69 years old. I realized at that moment just how serious the situation was, and was very glad to be in such professional hands.
I started to go 3 nights a week to work out. By the 2nd week, I realized how much better I was starting to feel. During each workout, My trainer would set small challenges for me. I was very determined to achieve the challenge and push myself even further. During the 8-week program, the staff was so supportive, always encouraging and cheering me on during my workouts.
After 8 weeks, I lost a total of 30 pounds. I went from a physical age of 69 to my exact age of 42. I realized how much the hard work paid off. I changed my entire lifestyle. I was eating healthy, bought a bike to ride with my children, I had more energy and felt great about myself. Now that I was doing well, I was not ready to stop.
I am working out on my own now, three times a week, plus nightly walks/runs, and biking. I am down 107 pounds in 14 months. I have gone from a size 48 waist to a size 34. Most importantly I added years to my life. I feel great, have so much energy to play with my children, and I have brought this awareness to my children. This is not a diet and exercise program I am on, this is my new healthy lifestyle, and I am loving it.
