What started out as a noble effort of recognition for Agnes Nixon, creator of iconic legends All My Children and One Life to Live has quickly become a lightning rod for multiple fan bases, sometimes opposing fan bases, to join together in harmony under one flag – Standing With Agnes Nixon (SWAN).

The Facebook group, SWAN – Standing With Agnes Nixon, at over 3700 members, was originally created to advocate for Mrs Nixon to receive a Kennedy Center Honor for her decades of contributions to the American cultural fabric. While this is still a worthy goal, the group has broadened its original goal to include supporting the return of Mrs Nixon’s legacies to production. With both of her legacies, All My Children and One Life to Live off air after over four decades of five day-a-week production, the group is determined to see their return.

Currently, 74 Facebook Groups and over 103,500 cumulative SWANs have set aside differences and joined together in one common cause - to Stand With Agnes Nixon! While focusing on Agnes Nixon and her two shows, the group is made up of fans spanning the soap opera genre.

There have been questions whether Agnes Nixon is aware of the group, their campaign, and their support. At a recent taping of the daytime talk show, The View, the iconic show One Life to Live was honored and Mrs Nixon was in attendance. After the taping, several fans had the opportunity to meet with her. The following is an account by Cole Bell, a fan who got to speak with Mrs Nixon.

“When I could finally, speak...I pushed the words...’I almost don't know what to say-you are one of my heroes!’ out of my mouth. To which Ms. Nixon replied, ‘That is one of the nicest things anyone has ever told me!" We chatted for a moment, and as we were parting, she asked me if I knew about SWAN. I was happy to tell her that my group was one of the first to become part of the SWAN campaign. She smiled and blew me a kiss in that special Agnes Nixon way!’”

SWANs continue to flock behind Agnes Nixon and will continue to do so until her legacies are back in production. In addition to fans, there is a roster of actors who have joined the SWANs group including Ilene Kristen, Michael Easton, Crystal Chappell, Kassie DePaiva, Catherine Hickland, Catherine Oxenberg, Hillary B Smith, Casper Van Dien, Jerry Ver Dorn, and Tonja Walker of One Life to Live; and Jordi Vilasuso and Walt Willey of All My Children.

Agnes Nixon’s creations are iconic, decades-long stories that have helped shape and define generations of American culture. With over 100,000 cumulative fans joining together to stand with Agnes Nixon, she has a flock of SWANs who love and support her and her legacies.
