    Free Byrd

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Amy Cavazos of Texarkana, Texas, says the students of Texas High School were protesting all day yesterday to support their friend Austin Byrd, a popular senior who had been punished for pulling a senior prank. Byrd jumped in the school pond during the school's Canterbury Tales Pilgrimage - a tradition where seniors don costumes and march around the campus. Byrd was suspended, fined and ordered to community service. His punishment was seen as too severe by some students. 'I think they were trying to make a statement,' Cavazos says. After the protests and social media outburst, Byrd's punishment was reduced. Read more in this local story.
