Walmart still taking advantage of Woman.
Hello folks.
If anyone has any info on what to do about Wal-Mart taking advantage of my mother who is going on 60 please let me know. She has been there since 2005 barely getting by and my brother, sister and my self have been helping my mom since we were in high school and current. My mom has been working since she was 5 years old on the farm in North Carolina. She has never in her life really had many vacations in her life and she deserves it. I would rather her not work. She was a computer operator for an Army Depot until 1994.
1995 they trained some employees the latest computer technology but my mom left the job one year to early. Windows 95 was new and was a big effect on many women during that time and even more now, as they get older. As computer technology has grown as it has many woman like my mother cannot find the kind of jobs they were once trained for.
Many of these women like my mother can only find job as a telemarketer or work at Wal-Mart. They now make 50% less than they did before 1995.
Wal-Mart treats their employees like teenagers that are working their first job. Yes the elderly men and woman work the doors from the ages of 65 and up.
My mom and many others like her at the age of 55-65 get treated like crap.
They make my mom come in at 5am Monday through Friday and she sometimes volunteers to come in for extra hours on Saturday. She will come home at 4:30PM tired and her back hurting. She rarely gets to relax and enjoy a dinner when about 9PM they will call her the same day and tell her she needs to come in at midnight.
She would do it and get no sleep and work the whole night and then the next morning they want her to come back and do it again. She gets tired and her back is sore and she will call to use her many unused sick hours and they deny her request.
This past weekend that is what happened and she worked 6 days straight and even worked 5am on Labor Day. They wanted her to come in again at 12AM but I told her not to answer her phone. She was in pain the next day and exhausted and she requested again for sick leave so she can catch up on sleep and rest. The next morning they told her she needs to be at work or they will not give her the holiday pay she worked for on Labor Day, so she went in to work today to satisfy them for the $8.90hr pay. We live in the bay area so that is horrible pay for a department manager position.
They make her climb tall ladders and lift heavy stuff. She has came home many times in serious pains and waking us up at night to call the ambulance to be rushed to the hospital. Scares the heck out of me when I hear her in pain because I don't want to make another 911 call, and Wal-Mart does not care.
During the holidays it gets worse. They are complete asses and if she request a holiday of her vacation months in advance hours she has not used, when that day comes they make her work anyways. Everyday on her birthday in May they make her work even when she has requested the day off months before.
My mom doesn't want me to discuss this to them as I keep telling her I will have a talk with their management but she fears she may loose her job.
She was homeless a couple times and she doesn't want to go to the shelter again if my brother and I can't help her as this effects all of us. It is all she can find and I'm tired of Wal-Mart’s crap.
My mom is not the only one there are many going through the same thing.
Any help of who I should contact please let me know. So far all I can think of is better business bureau. Maybe I should do a video blog about this.
