I Participated in the Colorado Republican Caucus

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     revloc voted in last night's Colorado GOP caucus, and shared this photo and story of his experience. 'It felt good to actually be part of the process at a very local level rather than just sitting back and complaining,' he said. 'I decided it was time to actually do something about what I perceive is wrong with our country.'

I had never gone to a caucus and wondered what it was about. So I signed up and showed up. When I got there I found out I was part of Precinct 511.
Each precinct is made up of 2000 registered voters. It was very interesting. I felt like I was really participating in this republic we call the U.S.
We were also unique in that we also resided in a new State House District formed because of population growth in the last census. So the seat is up for grabs. One of the people running for the seat came in and gave a short but compelling speech. The number of people who showed up for Precinct 511 was 55. The demographics of the group leaned toward middle aged to retired mostly white people. We did a straw poll for president and it was 20 for Mitt Romney, 20 for Rick Santorum, 8 for Newt Gingrich and 7 for Ron Paul. Prior to the vote people could take 2 minutes to say anything they wanted about the candidates and a few folks did. We also have 3 folks running for County Commissioner and people gave endorsements of those that were running for that office too.
The 55 of us nominated 3 delegates and 3 alternate delegates to go to the County Assembly to determine who will run for county offices. Some of those will go up to higher assemblies. We also came up with 6 resolutions that we wanted to be part of the Republican platform. I apologize for the blurry photo. I took it quick as I was walking to precinct 511. I really enjoyed being part of the process. If you want to make changes you have to participate.
