    It's International Pizza Day

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     seeitnow says Pizzeria Brandi, thought to be the birthplace of the Pizza Margherita, served up 'quite honestly the best pizza I ever had.' He produced this video in honor of International Pizza Day. See another tribute to the holiday here.
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

Originating in Italy, from Neapolitan cuisine in the city of Napoli, the dish has become popular in many parts of the world. Pizza is one of the national foods of Italy and the Italian people.

In Italy, there is a bill before Parliament to safeguard the traditional Italian pizza, specifying permissible ingredients and methods of processing.

So how did the Pizza come about? In 1889, during a visit to Naples, Queen Margherita of Italy was served a pizza resembling the colors of the Italian flag, red (tomato), white (mozzarella) and green (basil). This kind of pizza has been named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita.

Produced and Hosted by: Percy von Lipinski
