    Canals Freeze in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     clayzell took this photo yesterday of revelers on the frozen-solid Kloveniersburgwal canal in Amsterdam, Netherlands. 'Adults and children were skating and tobogganing under the bridge and on the frozen water between the moored boats. There was a real carnival atmosphere in the air,' she said. 'I have lived in Amsterdam for several years and have seen the canals freeze before, but never solid ice like this that could support the weight of all these people.'

    Resembling a painting by one of the Dutch masters, this was the scene in Amsterdam on February 8, 2012 as children and adults took to the ice on the frozen Kloveniersburgwal canal. Local TV station AT5 reported that an impromptu skating party took place later that evening on the central Prinsengracht canal.
