This iReport is part of an assignment:
Remembering Whitney Houston |
Simply Iconic!
I grew up listening to these mega artists and they transformed the music that is being listen to today. There are no mega music artists today. In the 80's there was Michael Jackson, Madonna and of course Ms. Houston, along with so many others. These artists hold a special meaning for the fans who bought their albums, singles, watched the videos and went to the concerts. Whitney Houston was the greatest female singer period! If you listen to her earlier records the songs were searing, soul wrenching with beautiful melodies. She was a storyteller when she sang and everyone wished they could sing just like her. I know I did. My heart is breaking because we lost another musical icon. People are going to focus on her recent battles but there are those of us who will remember how truly special she was as a performer. I don't care to know the reasons, all I know is that she is gone. She was one of many from that period who are cherished and beloved by their true fans. Like I said before there is only a glimmer of talent in today's music. Artists are not selling tens of millions of albums like Houston, Jackson, Carey, Madonna did. Why? Well the music is not that memorable. People will be singing "I Will Always Love You", "Greatest Love Of All" some hundred years from now because those songs are timeless. "Poker Face" and others are very forgetful for me. I was hoping Whitney would find herself back on top because a "voice" like that deserves to be heard. There is something about singers and musicians we as fans tend to have a deep affection for. People have always turned to music for inspiration and comfort at times. It truly brings people together. I would like those who can relate to what I am saying remind people why we hold these artists so close to our hearts. We grew up with them, supported them and I am so glad that we didn't have the stigma of social media because it was something special about the mystery of them as people. I didn't care who they were sleeping with or what they were doing every second of the day. I wanted the latest album and music video, which came every few years. Not like now where they're releasing an album every six months it seems. Whitney Houston was a diva, a songstress, an icon and transformer. We should all be grateful for her beautiful voice and legacy she has left us with. Rest in peace. My heart is aching. Can't take it anymore.
