Remembering Whitney Houston |
My mom and 'me.'
- dsashin, CNN iReport producer
More often than the others, Whitney's voice wailed over our conversations of my day in class and often provided the soundtrack of our impromptu dance parties at any given stoplight...
I remember this album artwork prominent in our center console, cassette case empty, and I always wondered how much that tightly slicked back hair must have hurt her forehead...
Miss Houston's music was the soundtrack to my young life and tonight, my mom and I shared these memories as we mourned the loss of yet another musical genius who helped us to bond as mother and son - but also helped the world to bond as brother and sister...
---
Dear Ms. Houston -
Thank you for your beyond radiant talent... Your legendary voice and even more legendary pearly whites are forever remembered on the eternal stage of the music industry... But even moreso (AND more importantly to me,) your voice is essential to the earliest memories that I have of me being 'me,' with my mom, in that Benz, dancing, laughing, singing, loving...
My thoughts and prayers are with your family and loved ones at this moment... I truly hope they are able to find solace knowing that your talent and work are infinitely present, across the globe, and inside essential moments in everyone's life - just like mine...
I truly believe everyone knows exactly where they were the first time they heard you belt, '...and I will always love you'... I am also very confident everyone will remember exactly what they were doing the moment they heard your holy talent had been claimed by the heavens...
...and just as you belted out those lyrics in 1992 - the world will always love you, too.
May you finally rest in peace...
Respectfully,
CORY
