The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans has GOT to be one of the best kept "secret" tourist attractions! Set away from all the noise of the French Quarter, this park has got some beautiful, tranquil exhibits of exotic animals - most of them are in the open, not kept behind cages or glass.

You walk in and, while the flamingo "area" can be a little caustic to the nose, orange flamingos are a sight to see. From there you can branch off in many directions to see elephants, white tigers, lions, orangatans, the whole gambit of animals. The "Louisiana Swamp" exhibit is an absolute MUST see part of the zoo. Watching the moving "ripples" in the duck weed is a trip!

Everything is kept pretty clean and there are LOTS of shaded areas from all the trees so, even though it can be 90-something degrees out there, you won't get too overheated.

Mark this on your itinerary as a family-must-go-to part of your visit to New Orleans. It's educational, incredible, and fun (and you'll walk off all the great food you've been devouring in the French Quarter).
