Find A Quiet Retreat At Oak Alley

If you don't like the atmosphere of the city during Mardi Gras, Oak Alley offers a quiet retreat. On the Mississippi River, this Southern Plantation now offers tours of the grounds and select buildings. The name comes from the towering oak trees that were originally planted along the walkways that still stand there today.

No photos are allowed to be taken inside during the regular tour, but it has been featured in many movies where the interior can be viewed on film.

There are historical interpreters in period costumes to answer any questions you may have even if you decide not to do the full tour. If you get tired of walking the grounds, there is a wonderful restaurant that features Louisiana favorites. You can even take home some of their famous mint juleps from the gift shop!

They take reservations for overnight guests or special events. There have been accounts of hauntings in the area, so be sure to bring your camera just in case!
