    Visions of Third World America?

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     MBisMe shared some further thoughts on the debate over contraception currently roiling the 2012 GOP primary field. 'Even though my "vision" is of the future in terms of America looking like a third-world country, there are parts of America today where the infant mortality rates rivals those of developing countries, particularly in the African American population,' she said. 'It will only get worse if women's healthcare is further limited. Food for thought.'

As a former Peace Corps volunteer, all this GOP talk of taking away access to contraception and prenatal care is giving me flashbacks to living in a third-world country in West Africa. But in America, the Land of Opportunity, we the tools and resources to help people lead better lives. We band together to help out those in need. Proposing to take away access to preventive healthcare for (mostly low-income) women is absurd. That is not how we treat people in MY America. Justifying it under religion is even more absurd. What if God put in place the mechanisms that created birth control so women, children and families don't have to needlessly suffer?
