The Crossing Sabers
While deployed to Iraq from 2009 to 2010 I have had the opportunity to visit some interesting places both during missions and off missions. This particular picture was taken in Bagdhad. The history behind these crossing sabers are very interesting and I feel it is worth sharing. Years ago before Operation Desert Storm Saddam Hussein went to war with Iran. Saddam Hussein and his republican guard became victorious in this conflict. After the war saddam hired an artist to design and build a victory trophy. It started out as a small model that the artist handed to saddam. Saddam said it was perfect and so the structer was erected in downtown Bagdhad.
