    The Academy Awards don't appreciate black actors

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     omekongo told me, 'You can't even find black women in leading roles. If it wasn't for Tyler Perry you wouldn't see many black women on the big screen. It's sad. All this progress: Black President and all, and we still see that the media perceptions haven't changed.'

    Year after year, we see that the Academy Awards recognize black actors who take roles portraying the same stereotypical roles that the overwhelmingly white, overwhelmingly male, and overwhelmingly over 50 believe are capable of playing. It's time for a change but the change must be led by African Americans.
