Remembering Davy Jones
Davy, Davy, Davy! ...and ME!
I became a Monkees fan August of 1997 when I was 14yrs old. My sister made me watch them on Nick-at-Nite, it was love at first sight. Davy's baby face and British accent had me hooked! I got online and learned as much about The Monkees as I could!! Buying CDs, searching thrift stores for Vinyl and making my own tshirts.I can tell you I was the only kid in my Freshman class with Monkee posters on their walls. I never thought I'd have a chance to see The Monkees live. Until the 45th Anniversary Tour last year!! I had been a Monkees fan half my life and couldn't believe this was happening! It was July 2011, my sister and I flew into Tacoma from Boise. The Meet & Greet after the concert is when I met Davy Jones. I was already star struck from meeting Micky Dolenz & Peter Tork. As my sister and I waited to meet Davy I watched him interact with the other fans. He was so kind and still had that twinkle in his eye. When it was our turn to have pictures with Davy, I kicked off my shoes because I didn't want to look taller than him in the picture. He looked at my feet, then looked up at me. I explained myself and he smiled. He wasn't offended by this act of shoelessness as he autographed my Vinyl record & Monkees biography. I couldn't be happier! After the Meet & Greet, I called my Mom shrieking and blew up my Facebook about my experience. The next day we drove to Portland for a second concert, no meet and greet this time. However I was able to snag Davy's set list!! My memorabilia from that trip immediately became my most treasured items... Yesterday, my sister text me at work about Davy's passing. I was in disbelief. No, no this couldn't be true! On stage he was so full of life and energy. I Googled it and found several stories confirming the text. All day I received texts, emails and calls from friends extending their condolences for my loss. People I hardly talk to any more said they thought of me right away. That meant a lot to me. Like many fans my eyes are red from crying over our fallen idol. To my fellow fans, and all of Davy's family and friends, I send my deepest condolences. Thank you Davy, for all the joy you brought to my life, and many others. You will be missed but always remembered, Rest in peace David Jones.
