    Moscow protests after elections

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     elenaratner, of Moscow, Russia, shot these pictures at a protest held in Pushkinskaya square yesterday. 'There was frustration and disappointment, even sadness and tiredness,' she says about the event. 'But when I left, action began. Some people decided to stay at the square with some of the opposition politics and that's when the mood became aggressive as police started detaining people, mostly for nothing.' She learned from the media that there were about 15,000 participants and 1,000 who stayed and encountered the police. Although she did not actively take part in the demonstrations, she still supports the protest. 'In my opinion, we suffered a defeat and it's sad. People are frustrated about authorities, and particularly Putin, [who] don't care about our demands and...that they impudently falsificated results...of past elections.'

These pictures were taken during the rally, when it was still quiet.
Later, when some of the participants decided to stay at the square, police used force and violence and a lot of people were detained.
