In need of a Money Coach?

DISABLED AND AFRAID OF LOSING MY HOME

I just celebrated my eleventh-year-anniversary of no surgeries. In 2001, I had spinal surgery and 14-months later, a brain surgery, (those were the biggies.) I was able to keep a job through most of those years until May 2010 when I finally succumbed to retirement by way of disability. Unfortunately, I am now afraid that I will lose my home. I have been in my home for just shy of ten years and share it with my 79-year-old mother. Until this past year, I was solely responsible for paying the mortgage, taxes and utilities. Now, I have to ask her to contribute financially.

The amount of money that I bring in every month is less than a two-week paycheck. Although, I am current on my mortgage payments, I have a variable rate interest on my home that adjusts every August. I have sought assistance through the Making Home Affordable and HAMP programs with no help. Making Home Affordable said that my situation required that I be a beneficiary to unemployment compensation to receive help. HAMP said that I no longer make enough income to support a house payment. I am afraid that once interest rates regain there upward momentum, I will be priced out of my house. Yet, I cannot refinance because I have no job and have very little income. My house payment is considerably less that $1,000/month. Therefore, renting an apartment would not be any cheaper.

I am uncertain why the government was so willing to help those on unemployment compensation and yet, could not extend a helping hand to the disabled. It seems that the unemployed will be employable in the future. Unfortunately, I will always be disabled. I need help staying in my home. Are there any programs that can help me?
