    Cherry Blossom Festival: Washington, D.C.

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     navidbaraty shot these pictures on March 23 of cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C., in full bloom after an early spring thaw. 'It was my first time being in D.C. for the festival,' he said. 'I knew it was going to be gorgeous, but wasn't quite prepared for how stunning of a show it really was. I don't ever really take any photographs of flowers, but I had to make an exception in this case.'

    I was fortunate enough to arrive in Washington, D.C. last Friday on a gorgeous, 80-degree day before the rainy weekend hit to witness the exploding cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin. It was the first time in about 5 years that I've taken a photo of a flower, and was also my first time seeing the cherry blossoms in D.C. I really wasn't expecting it to be quite as stunning as it was.
